Playing the waiting game

I went in to talk to the guys in the shop earlier this week. Before they got too far into the inspection, they wanted to make sure they were clear on what I wanted done. Initially, they were thinking they were going to do a bumper-to-bumper inspection but after seeing the car, they realized that I had already gone through most of the car and there was no need to tell me what I already knew. I confirmed that they should focus only on the drivetrain. So the next step is they will do leakdown and compression tests to determine the overall health of the top and bottom end. From there, they will work up a quote to rebuild the engine and transaxle, assuming the engine just needs to be freshened up (seals, gaskets, valve guides, etc) and transaxle just needs new syncros. After waking up from passing out looking at the quote, they will get to work actually doing the work. Just blogging about it makes me light-headed. This is going to be a BIG number.
